What is a Patent? A Patent is essentially a contract with the government which grants to the inventor the right "to exclude others from making, using, or selling the invention" within the U.S., its territories and possessions for a period of time. In exchange for this government endorsed 'monopoly,' the inventor discloses his invention to the public. It is in this way the public good is advanced by patents, in that, the public gets to see and improve on the invention.
Why would these Patent CDs interest me? In each patent is a wealth of information on what the inventor was thinking at the time the invention was made. Each utility patent has a specification (and usually drawings) which describes the invention in detail. It is in these details that History is captured. For example one can trace the evolution of Baseball Gloves by reading the patents, and tracing the family tree of evolution, with its false starts and dead ends.

The drawing s of each patent also contain a wealth of information for restorers and craftsmen. One customer has used the Harley-Davidson CD to restore components of an antique motorcycle.

Do you make plaques or Prints of Individual Patents? No-not at this time, however, see our preferred vendor: United States Patent Collectables & Commemoratives on our links page. They make wonderful etched plaques for inventors as well as collectors.

It is easy enough to edit the patent drawings to make your own prints with the use of commonly available photo-editing software. Other companies charge outrageous prices for prints on parchment paper. You can make your own with our CDs, and have many patents to choose from for almost the same price!

What exactly are on your Patent CDs? Each CD contains a Hyperlinked Index, sorted a variety of ways (by date, number, inventor, etc.) as well as copies of each patent in its entirety in a PDF format.
Why should I buy your Patent CD when I can get the Patents for Free at the USPTO? The patents in this collection are from the US Patent and Trademark Office image database and are considered Public Domain. The purchase price pays for the search, collection, file conversion, packaging and distribution of the information as well as the creation of value-added content such as the linked index and instructions. We have spent the time and effort in finding Lots of patents and putting them on 1 CD, with an index  for your easy browsing. You can spend hours just reading the documents and learning about your favorite topic!
I don't see my interest listed, can you make a Patent CD for me?

Yes, Contact us at customcd@gadgetsplace.com

For you own specialized CD on a topic of your choice!!!

Email me with your request, providing as much detail as possible for  pricing and details.

What do I need to run your Patent CD? The hyperlinked indices use Microsoft Explorer 4.0 or its equivalent Web Browser, whereas, the PDF files need Adobe Acrobat Reader v 3.0 or higher.
I have a MAC will your Patent CD work? Yes, however, some customers have had some issues with the PDF files opening inside the browser window. Apparently it is an Adobe/Microsoft problem and only affects a small percentage of MAC users.
Is this Patent CD a "Patent Search"?  No, this Patent CD collections are informative and useful to gain knowledge about subject matter at hand, but should not be considered a patent search. A patent search involves understanding one's invention and comparing it to the patents & literature which already exist. Obviously, this step is missing from the CD. A patent search is more than just a collection of patents and should be done by a licensed patent attorney or agent.
I have this Gadget and I have no Idea what it is or what it does but it has a patent number on it, can you help me? Yes! We can do whatzit? searches. The Patent will explain all about your gadget and give you more information that you would expect.

What better way to supplement the authenticity of your object than by a copy of the US patent?? email me for info at: customcd@gadgetsplace.com

What is the Difference Between Design and Utility Patent? In general terms, a “utility patent” protects the way an article is used and works (35 U.S.C. 101), while a “design patent” protects the way an article looks (35 U.S.C. 171). Both design and utility patents may be obtained on an article if invention resides both in its utility and ornamental appearance. While utility and design patents afford legally separate protection, the utility and ornamentally of an article are not easily separable. Articles of manufacture may possess both functional and ornamental characteristics.
